Bhagavad Gītā Chapter 10, Verse 24: Krishna to Arjuna — Vibhūti-Yoga
Among priests I am Bṛhaspati, among army commanders I am Skanda, and among bodies of water I am the ocean.
Bhāṣyakāra purports
- Śaṅkaraadvaita
Among royal chaplains (purohitas), know Me as Brhaspati — the foremost, since he is the chief priest of Indra, who is sovereign among rulers. Among commanders of armies, I am Skanda, the general of the divine hosts. Among bodies of water, the still lake-pools born of divine excavation — I am the ocean (sagara).
- Rāmānujaviśiṣṭādvaita
Among priests, the eminent Brhaspati — that one am I. Among army-commanders, Skanda am I. Among bodies of water, the ocean am I.
- Madhvadvaita
Among chaplains Brhaspati, among generals Skanda, among waters the ocean — in each, the supremacy is Hari's own, since all excellence in dependent beings flows only from His independent will.
- Vallabhaśuddhādvaita
Among chaplains I am Brhaspati; among still bodies of water (sthira-jalasayananam) — those that are steady, not restlessly flowing — I am the ocean.
- Śrīdharabhakti
Among priests, know Me as Brhaspati — foremost because he is the divine chaplain (devapurohita). Among army-commanders (senaninas), I am Skanda the divine general (devasenapati). Among bodies of still water (sthira-jalasayanam), I am the ocean (samudra).
- Madhusūdanaadvaita-bhakti
Because Indra is supreme among all kings, his chaplain Brhaspati is supreme among all royal priests — and that Brhaspati is Me. Among generals, I am Skanda — called Guha — the divine commander. Among bodies of divine-dug still water (devakhata-jalasayanam), I am the ocean — the great reservoir excavated by the sons of Sagara.
