Bhagavad Gītā Chapter 10, Verse 26: Krishna to Arjuna — Vibhūti-Yoga
Among all trees I am the sacred fig; among divine seers, Nārada; among the gandharvas, Citraratha; and among the perfected ones, the sage Kapila.
Bhāṣyakāra purports
- Śaṅkaraadvaita
Among all trees I am the aśvattha (the sacred fig, emblem of the imperishable rooted in Brahman above); among the divine seers I am Nārada, who though a deva attained ṛṣitva (seer-hood) through direct perception of mantra. Among the gandharvas I am Citraratha; among the siddhas — those who at birth alone had attained the fullness of dharma, jñāna, vairāgya, and aiśvarya — I am the muni Kapila.
- Rāmānujaviśiṣṭādvaita
Among all trees the venerable aśvattha — itself a Vaiṣṇava emblem — is my manifest glory; among the devarṣis the supremely devoted Nārada, foremost among Vaiṣṇavas, is I. Among the gandharvas, the celestial singers, I am Citraratha; and among the siddhas established in yoga-niṣṭhā (firm absorption in the Lord), I am the supremely worshipped Kapila.
- Madhvadvaita
I am Kapila among the siddhas — Kapila whose very name encodes the nature of Hari as sukha-rūpa (bliss-form), who both sustains and reabsorbs the world. This Kapila is no mere sāṃkhya teacher but the Vedic Kapila praised in the Śvetāśvatara Upaniṣad: 'the ṛṣi born at the origin, whom knowledge sustains' — the divine descent whose identity with the Lord is confirmed by the Sāmaveda's Bābhravya-śākhā.
- Vallabhaśuddhādvaita
The aśvattha is to be meditated upon and honored as a Vaiṣṇava emblem; Nārada among the devarṣis is I — the mahā-bhāgavata who embodies both the discipline of maryādā (orderly devotion) and the sweetness of puṣṭi-rasa. Citraratha among the gandharvas is worthy of Vaiṣṇava contemplation; and Kapila is no ordinary siddha but a direct avatāra (divine descent) of Bhagavān, the speaker of the sāṃkhya-tattvas and the originator of the puṣṭi-sarga (graceful creation), wholly a vibhūti.
- Śrīdharabhakti
Among all trees I am the aśvattha; among those devas who by mantra-sight (mantra-darśana) attained the status of ṛṣis, I am Nārada. Among the gandharvas I am Citraratha; and among the siddhas — those who have from birth directly grasped the paramārtha-tattva (ultimate reality) — I am the muni named Kapila.
- Madhusūdanaadvaita-bhakti
Among all trees and plants I am the aśvattha; among the devarṣis — devas who by mantra-sight (mantra-darśitvena) attained ṛṣitva — I am Nārada. Among the gandharvas, the celestial musicians whose very nature is song, I am Citraratha. Among the siddhas — those who without effort have from birth attained the fullness of dharma, jñāna, vairāgya, aiśvarya, and direct grasp of paramārtha — I am the muni Kapila.
